1. Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for this palace is not for a human being but for Yahweh God.
2. So with all my strength I have provided for the house of my God: gold for the things of gold, silver for the things of silver, bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, as well as onyx stones and stones for setting, stones of antimony and of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in great quantity.
3. Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give my own personal treasure of gold and silver to the house of my God, over and above all that I have provided for the holy house:
4. three thousand talents of gold, gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the buildings,
5. gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver, and for all the work to be done by craftsmen. Now who is willing to consecrate himself today to Yahweh by giving freely?”
6. Then the heads of families, the officials of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave freely.
7. For the service of the house of God they gave five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.
8. Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh, in the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9. The people rejoiced because they had given so freely, for they had given freely to Yahweh with a whole heart. King David also rejoiced greatly.
10. Then David blessed Yahweh in the presence of the whole assembly. David said, “Blessed are you, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.
11. Yours, Yahweh, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head over all.
12. Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
13. Now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name.
14. But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so freely as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.
15. For we are foreigners and strangers before you, as all our fathers were. Our days on earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16. Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.
17. I know, my God, that you test the heart and take pleasure in uprightness. With an upright heart I have freely given all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here giving freely to you with joy.
18. Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.
19. Give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep your commandments, your decrees, and your statutes, to do all of them, and to build the palace for which I have made provision.”
20. Then David said to the whole assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God.” So the whole assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers. They bowed their heads and fell down before Yahweh and the king.
21. The next day they offered sacrifices to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings to Yahweh: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
22. They ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great joy. Then they made Solomon son of David king a second time, and they anointed him for Yahweh as leader, and Zadok as priest.
23. So Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
24. All the officials and the mighty warriors, as well as all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
25. Yahweh made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel and gave him royal majesty such as no king over Israel before him had had.
26. So David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27. The length of his reign over Israel was forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
28. He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon became king in his place.
29. The acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer,
30. together with all his reign and his might, and the events that came upon him and upon Israel and upon all the kingdoms of the lands.
