Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath.
2. He did what was right in the sight of Yahweh and walked in all the way of his ancestor David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
3. In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent the secretary Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, to the house of Yahweh, saying,
4. “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him total up the silver that has been brought into the house of Yahweh, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.
5. Have them hand it over to the men appointed to oversee the work on the house of Yahweh, and let them pay it to the workers who are in the house of Yahweh to repair the damage to the house,
6. to the carpenters, the builders, and the masons, and to buy timber and cut stone to repair the house.
7. But they are not to be asked to account for the silver handed over to them, for they act faithfully.”
8. Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
9. Then Shaphan the secretary went to the king and reported to him: “Your servants have emptied out the silver that was found in the temple and handed it over to the men appointed to oversee the work on the house of Yahweh.”
10. Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it aloud before the king.
11. When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.
12. The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king’s servant,
13. “Go and inquire of Yahweh for me, for the people, and for all Judah about the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of Yahweh that has been kindled against us, because our ancestors have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written concerning us.”
14. So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophet Huldah, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, the keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter, and they spoke with her.
15. She said to them, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me,
16. ‘This is what Yahweh says: I am going to bring disaster on this place and on its people, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read.
17. Because they have abandoned me and burned incense to other gods, provoking me to anger with all the work of their hands, my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’
18. But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, say this: ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you have heard:
19. Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and its people, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and because you tore your clothes and wept before me, I too have heard you, declares Yahweh.
20. Therefore I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am going to bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
