1. The elder, to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2. Dear friend, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is going well with your soul.
3. For I was overjoyed when some brothers and sisters came and testified to your faithfulness to the truth, just as you are walking in the truth.
4. I have no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
5. Dear friend, you are acting faithfully in whatever you do for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.
6. They have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7. For they went out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
8. So we ought to support people like these, so that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9. I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept us.
10. So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, talking nonsense against us with wicked words. Not content with that, he himself refuses to welcome the brothers and sisters, and he stops those who want to welcome them and throws them out of the church.
11. Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
12. Demetrius has a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true.
13. I had much to write to you, but I do not want to write it to you with pen and ink.
14. I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends send you greetings. Greet each of the friends by name.
