Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. Woe to those who are at ease in Zion and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable people of the foremost nation, to whom the house of Israel comes!
2. Cross over to Calneh and look; go from there to Hamath the great, then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?
3. You put off the day of disaster, yet you bring near the reign of violence.
4. You lie on beds inlaid with ivory and sprawl on your couches. You eat lambs from the flock and calves from the stall.
5. You strum away on the harp; like David you invent musical instruments for yourselves.
6. You drink wine by the bowlful and anoint yourselves with the finest oils, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.
7. Therefore you will now be the first to go into exile, and the feasting of those who sprawl will come to an end.
8. Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself, declares Yahweh, the God of Armies: I detest the pride of Jacob and hate his fortresses, and I will hand over the city and everything in it.
9. If ten people are left in one house, they will die.
10. When a relative, the one who will burn the body, picks up the corpse to carry the bones out of the house, he will ask someone hiding in the back of the house, “Is anyone else with you?” and he will answer, “No.” Then he will say, “Hush! We must not mention the name of Yahweh.”
11. For Yahweh is giving the command: he will smash the great house to pieces and the small house to bits.
12. Do horses run on rocky crags? Does anyone plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness.
13. You rejoice over Lo-debar and say, “Did we not take Karnaim for ourselves by our own strength?”
14. For I am going to raise up a nation against you, house of Israel, declares Yahweh, the God of Armies, and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the Wadi of the Arabah.
