1. The word of Yahweh came to me:
2. “As for you, son of man, take up a lament over Tyre.
3. Say to Tyre, which sits at the entrance to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, ‘This is what Lord Yahweh says: Tyre, you have said, “I am perfect in beauty.”
4. Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders made your beauty perfect.
5. They made all your planks of juniper from Senir; they took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.
6. From oaks of Bashan they made your oars; they made your deck of ivory set in cypress from the coasts of Kittim.
7. Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail, serving as your banner; blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was your awning.
8. The people of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your own skilled men, Tyre, were on board as your sailors.
9. The elders of Gebal and its skilled men were on board to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came to you to trade for your goods.
10. Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army, your men of war. They hung shield and helmet in you; they gave you your splendor.
11. The men of Arvad and your army were on your walls all around, and the men of Gamad were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they made your beauty perfect.
12. Tarshish traded with you because of your great wealth of every kind. For your merchandise they gave silver, iron, tin, and lead.
13. Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you. They gave human beings and bronze vessels for your goods.
14. From Beth-togarmah they gave horses, war horses, and mules for your merchandise.
15. The people of Dedan traded with you; many coastlands were markets for your wares. They paid you with ivory tusks and ebony.
16. Aram traded with you because of your many products. For your merchandise they gave turquoise, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies.
17. Judah and the land of Israel traded with you. For your goods they gave wheat from Minnith, millet, honey, oil, and balm.
18. Damascus traded with you because of your many products and your great wealth of every kind, with wine from Helbon and white wool.
19. Dan and Javan from Uzal gave wrought iron for your merchandise; cassia and calamus were among your goods.
20. Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding.
21. Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your customers, trading in lambs, rams, and goats; in these they traded with you.
22. The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you. For your merchandise they gave the finest of all spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold.
23. Haran, Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you.
24. They traded with you in choice garments, in cloaks of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of many colors, bound with cords and tightly knotted, in your marketplace.
25. The ships of Tarshish carried your goods. So you were filled and heavily loaded in the heart of the seas.
26. Your rowers brought you out onto the great waters. The east wind has shattered you in the heart of the seas.
27. Your wealth, your merchandise, your goods, your sailors and your crew, those who caulk your seams and those who trade your goods, all your men of war who are in you, and all the company on board, will sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your fall.
28. At the sound of your sailors’ cry the shorelands will shake.
29. All who handle the oar, the sailors and all the crews of the sea, will come down from their ships and stand on the shore.
30. They will raise their voices over you and cry out bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in the ashes.
31. They will shave their heads bald for you and put on sackcloth, and they will weep over you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning.
32. In their wailing they will take up a lament for you and chant over you: “Who was like Tyre, like her who is now silent in the middle of the sea?
33. When your goods went out over the seas, you satisfied many peoples. With your great wealth and your merchandise you made the kings of the earth rich.
34. Now you are shattered by the seas, in the depths of the waters. Your merchandise and all your company have gone down with you.
35. All who live in the coastlands are appalled at you. Their kings shudder with horror; their faces are distorted with fear.
36. The merchants among the peoples hiss at you. You have come to a horrible end, and you will be no more forever.”’”
