Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. This is the word of Yahweh that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the nations.
2. Concerning Egypt: about the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was at the Euphrates River at Carchemish, and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah.
3. Get your shields ready, both small and large, and advance into battle!
4. Harness the horses; mount up, you horsemen! Take your positions with your helmets on; polish your spears, put on your armor!
5. Why do I see this? They are terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are beaten down. They flee in haste and do not look back; terror is on every side, declares Yahweh.
6. The swift cannot flee, and the warrior cannot escape; in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall.
7. Who is this that rises like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge?
8. Egypt rises like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge. It says, “I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy cities and the people who live in them.”
9. Charge, you horses! Drive furiously, you chariots! Let the warriors march out: men of Cush and Put who carry the shield, men of Lud who draw and bend the bow.
10. That day belongs to the Lord Yahweh of Armies, a day of vengeance, to take vengeance on his enemies. The sword will devour until it is satisfied and has drunk its fill of their blood. For the Lord Yahweh of Armies holds a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.
11. Go up to Gilead and get balm, virgin daughter of Egypt! In vain you have used many remedies; there is no healing for you.
12. The nations have heard of your shame; your cry fills the earth. Warrior stumbles over warrior, and both of them fall together.
13. This is the word that Yahweh spoke to the prophet Jeremiah about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:
14. Announce it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol, proclaim it in Memphis and in Tahpanhes. Say, “Take your positions and get ready, for the sword is devouring all around you.”
15. Why have your mighty ones been swept away? They do not stand, for Yahweh has thrust them down.
16. He has made many stumble; they have fallen over one another. They said, “Get up, let us go back to our own people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the oppressor.”
17. There they cried out, “Pharaoh king of Egypt is only noise; he has let the appointed time pass by.”
18. As I live, declares the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies, one will come who is like Tabor among the mountains, like Carmel by the sea.
19. Pack your bags for exile, daughter of Egypt, you who live there, for Memphis will become a wasteland; it will lie in ruins without inhabitants.
20. Egypt is a beautiful heifer, but a gadfly from the north is coming; it is coming against her.
21. Even the hired soldiers in her ranks are like fattened calves. They too will turn and flee together; they will not stand their ground, for the day of their disaster has come upon them, the time of their punishment.
22. Egypt will hiss like a fleeing snake, for her enemies advance in force; they come against her with axes, like men who cut down trees.
23. They will cut down her forest, declares Yahweh, though it is impenetrable, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
24. The daughter of Egypt will be put to shame, handed over to the people of the north.
25. Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to punish Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt with her gods and her kings, Pharaoh and those who trust in him.
26. I will hand them over to those who seek their lives, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. But afterward Egypt will be inhabited as in the days of old, declares Yahweh.
27. But you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid; do not be dismayed, Israel. For I will save you from far away, and your descendants from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return and have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid.
28. Do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, declares Yahweh, for I am with you. I will make a complete end of all the nations among which I have scattered you, but I will not make a complete end of you. I will discipline you with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.
