Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. This is the word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh:
2. “Stand in the gate of the house of Yahweh and proclaim this word there. Say: Hear the word of Yahweh, all you people of Judah who enter these gates to worship Yahweh.
3. This is what Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place.
4. Do not put your trust in deceptive words, saying, ‘This is the temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh!’
5. For if you truly reform your ways and your actions, if you truly do justice between one person and another,
6. if you do not oppress the foreigner, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and do not follow other gods to your own harm,
7. then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors, from long ago and forever.
8. But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.
9. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods you have not known,
10. and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my name, and say, ‘We are safe!’—only to go on doing all these detestable things?
11. Has this house, which bears my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? But I myself have seen it, declares Yahweh.
12. Go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I first made my name dwell, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.
13. And now, because you have done all these things, declares Yahweh, and when I spoke to you again and again you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer,
14. I will do to the house that bears my name, the house in which you trust, and to the place I gave to you and your ancestors, just what I did to Shiloh.
15. I will throw you out of my sight, just as I threw out all your relatives, all the descendants of Ephraim.
16. As for you, do not pray for this people. Do not raise a cry or a prayer on their behalf, and do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you.
17. Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18. The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger.
19. But is it me they are provoking? declares Yahweh. Is it not themselves, to their own shame?
20. Therefore this is what the Lord Yahweh says: My anger and my wrath are about to be poured out on this place, on people and on animals, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground. It will burn and not be quenched.
21. This is what Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the meat yourselves!
22. For when I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to them or command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices.
23. But this is what I commanded them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, so that it may go well with you.’
24. But they did not listen or pay attention. They followed their own plans, in the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and they went backward and not forward.
25. From the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent all my servants the prophets to you, day after day, again and again.
26. Yet they did not listen to me or pay attention. They stiffened their necks and did more evil than their ancestors.
27. When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer you.
28. So you are to say to them: This is the nation that has not obeyed the voice of Yahweh its God or accepted correction. Truth has perished; it has been cut off from their mouths.
29. Cut off your hair and throw it away; raise a lament on the bare heights, for Yahweh has rejected and abandoned the generation that provoked his wrath.
30. For the people of Judah have done what is evil in my sight, declares Yahweh. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my name, and so defiled it.
31. They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire—something I did not command, and it never entered my mind.
32. So look, the days are coming, declares Yahweh, when it will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter, for they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no room left.
33. The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the sky and the animals of the earth, with no one to frighten them away.
34. I will put an end to the sound of joy and the sound of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, for the land will become a ruin.”
