1. When Joshua was old and advanced in years, Yahweh said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there is still a great deal of land left to take possession of.
2. This is the land that remains: all the regions of the Philistines and all those of the Geshurites,
3. from the Shihor, which faces Egypt, northward to the border of Ekron, which is counted as Canaanite—the five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron—and the Avvites
4. in the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah, which belongs to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, to the border of the Amorites;
5. the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon toward the sunrise, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath;
6. all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians. I myself will drive them out before the Israelites. Only allot the land to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you.
7. Now then, divide this land as an inheritance for the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”
8. With the other half of Manasseh, the Reubenites and the Gadites had received their inheritance, which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of Yahweh had given it to them:
9. from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Arnon Valley, and the city in the middle of the valley, and all the plateau from Medeba as far as Dibon,
10. and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the Ammonites;
11. also Gilead, and the territory of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salecah,
12. the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei. He was one of the last of the remnant of the Rephaim. Moses had defeated them and driven them out.
13. But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, so Geshur and Maacath have lived among Israel to this day.
14. To the tribe of Levi alone he gave no inheritance. The fire offerings of Yahweh, the God of Israel, are Levi’s inheritance, as he told him.
15. Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the Reubenites according to their clans.
16. Their territory was from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Arnon Valley, and the city in the middle of the valley, and all the plateau by Medeba;
17. Heshbon and all its towns on the plateau: Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,
18. Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,
19. Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,
20. Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth—
21. all the towns of the plateau, and the whole kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. Moses had defeated him along with the leaders of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land.
22. Along with the others they killed, the Israelites also put to the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination.
23. The border of the Reubenites was the Jordan and its bank. This was the inheritance of the Reubenites according to their clans, the towns and their villages.
24. Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of Gad, to the Gadites, according to their clans.
25. Their territory was Jazer, all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites as far as Aroer, which is east of Rabbah,
26. and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the territory of Debir;
27. and in the valley, Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, with the Jordan as its border, as far as the end of the Sea of Chinnereth, beyond the Jordan to the east.
28. This was the inheritance of the Gadites according to their clans, the towns and their villages.
29. Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh. It was for the half-tribe of the Manassites according to their clans.
30. Their territory extended from Mahanaim through all Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the settlements of Jair in Bashan, sixty towns,
31. and half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan. These were for the descendants of Machir son of Manasseh, for half of the descendants of Machir, according to their clans.
32. These are the inheritances that Moses distributed on the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho.
33. But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance. Yahweh, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he told them.
