Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. Woe to the city of bloodshed, full of lies, full of plunder, never without prey!
2. The crack of the whip, the rumble of wheels, galloping horses, and jolting chariots!
3. Horsemen charging, flashing swords, and glittering spears! Many are slain, heaps of corpses, bodies without end; they stumble over the bodies.
4. All because of the prostitute’s many acts of prostitution, graceful and charming, the mistress of sorceries, who sells nations by her prostitution and peoples by her sorceries.
5. I am against you, declares Yahweh of Armies. I will lift your skirts over your face; I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.
6. I will pelt you with filth, treat you with contempt, and make you a spectacle.
7. All who see you will shrink back from you and say, “Nineveh is devastated! Who will mourn for her?” Where can I find anyone to comfort you?
8. Are you better than Thebes, which sat by the Nile with water all around her, whose rampart was the sea and whose wall was the water?
9. Cush and Egypt were her boundless strength; Put and the Libyans were among her allies.
10. Yet she too went into exile; she went into captivity. Her infants too were dashed to pieces at the head of every street. They cast lots for her nobles, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11. You too will become drunk; you will go into hiding. You too will look for a refuge from the enemy.
12. All your fortresses are like fig trees with first-ripe figs: when they are shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
13. Look at your troops—they are women in your midst! The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has consumed the bars of your gates.
14. Draw water for the siege; strengthen your fortresses! Go into the clay, tread the mortar, take hold of the brick mold!
15. There the fire will consume you; the sword will cut you down. It will devour you like the hopping locust. Multiply like the hopping locust; multiply like the swarming locust!
16. You have increased your merchants until they outnumber the stars of the sky. The hopping locust sheds its skin and flies away.
17. Your guards are like swarming locusts, your officials like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where they have gone.
18. Your shepherds are asleep, king of Assyria; your nobles lie down to rest. Your people are scattered on the mountains, and there is no one to gather them.
19. There is no relief for your injury; your wound is fatal. All who hear the news about you clap their hands over you, for who has not felt your endless cruelty?
