Lumin’s own translation, drafted with AI from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, checked verse by verse against them, and approved by Lumin. Brackets mark verses not found in the earliest manuscripts.

1. Now the people began complaining about their hardships in Yahweh’s hearing. When Yahweh heard it, his anger burned, and fire from Yahweh blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.
2. Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire died down.
3. So that place was named Taberah, because fire from Yahweh had blazed among them.
4. The mixed crowd among them had a strong craving, and the Israelites also began weeping again. They said, “If only we had meat to eat!
5. We remember the fish we used to eat in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.
6. But now our appetite is gone; there is nothing at all to look at except this manna.”
7. The manna was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium.
8. The people went around gathering it and ground it with millstones or pounded it in a mortar. They boiled it in a pot and made it into cakes. It tasted like pastry made with oil.
9. When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna fell with it.
10. Moses heard the people weeping, family by family, each at the entrance of his tent. Yahweh’s anger burned fiercely, and Moses was troubled.
11. Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why have I not found favor in your eyes, that you put the burden of all these people on me?
12. Did I conceive all these people? Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me, ‘Carry them in your arms, as a nurse carries a nursing baby,’ to the land you swore to give their ancestors?
13. Where am I to get meat to give all these people? They keep weeping to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’
14. I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.
15. If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me right now—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me see my own ruin.”
16. Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel, men you know to be elders and officers of the people. Bring them to the tent of meeting, and have them stand there with you.
17. I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will carry the burden of the people with you, so that you will not have to carry it by yourself.
18. And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you will eat meat. You have wept in Yahweh’s hearing, “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!” So Yahweh will give you meat, and you will eat it.
19. You will eat it not just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,
20. but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it, because you have rejected Yahweh, who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”
21. But Moses said, “The people I am with number six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat, and they will eat it for a whole month’!
22. If flocks and herds were slaughtered for them, would it be enough for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would it be enough for them?”
23. Yahweh said to Moses, “Is Yahweh’s hand too short? Now you will see whether my word comes true for you or not.”
24. So Moses went out and told the people what Yahweh had said. He gathered seventy men from the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent.
25. Then Yahweh came down in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again.
26. Two men, however, had stayed in the camp, one named Eldad and the other Medad. The Spirit rested on them as well; they were among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent. So they prophesied in the camp.
27. A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”
28. Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ assistant since his youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”
29. But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, and that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!”
30. Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.
31. A wind went out from Yahweh and drove quail in from the sea. It let them fall around the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on that side, all around the camp, about two cubits above the ground.
32. All that day and all night and all the next day the people were up gathering the quail. The one who gathered the least gathered ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.
33. But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, Yahweh’s anger burned against the people, and Yahweh struck the people with a very severe plague.
34. So that place was named Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had given in to their craving.
35. From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth, and they stayed at Hazeroth.
