1. Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron,
2. “The Israelites are to camp each man by his own banner, under the emblems of their ancestral houses. They are to camp around the tent of meeting, facing it at a distance.
3. On the east side, toward the sunrise, those camping under the banner of the camp of Judah are to camp by their divisions. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab,
4. and his division, as registered, numbers 74,600.
5. Those camping next to him are the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar,
6. and his division, as registered, numbers 54,400.
7. Then the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon,
8. and his division, as registered, numbers 57,400.
9. All those registered for the camp of Judah, by their divisions, number 186,400. They are to set out first.
10. On the south side is the banner of the camp of Reuben by their divisions. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur,
11. and his division, as registered, numbers 46,500.
12. Those camping next to him are the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,
13. and his division, as registered, numbers 59,300.
14. Then the tribe of Gad. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Reuel,
15. and his division, as registered, numbers 45,650.
16. All those registered for the camp of Reuben, by their divisions, number 151,450. They are to set out second.
17. Then the tent of meeting is to set out, with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camps. They are to set out in the same order as they camp, each in his place, by their banners.
18. On the west side is the banner of the camp of Ephraim by their divisions. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama son of Ammihud,
19. and his division, as registered, numbers 40,500.
20. Next to him is the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,
21. and his division, as registered, numbers 32,200.
22. Then the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni,
23. and his division, as registered, numbers 35,400.
24. All those registered for the camp of Ephraim, by their divisions, number 108,100. They are to set out third.
25. On the north side is the banner of the camp of Dan by their divisions. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai,
26. and his division, as registered, numbers 62,700.
27. Those camping next to him are the tribe of Asher. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel son of Ocran,
28. and his division, as registered, numbers 41,500.
29. Then the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan,
30. and his division, as registered, numbers 53,400.
31. All those registered for the camp of Dan number 157,600. They are to set out last, by their banners.”
32. These were the Israelites registered by their ancestral houses. All those registered in the camps, by their divisions, numbered 603,550.
33. But the Levites were not registered among the Israelites, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
34. So the Israelites did everything just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. That is how they camped by their banners, and that is how they set out, each man with his clan and his ancestral house.
