1. A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.
2. From the fruit of his mouth a person eats good things, but the appetite of the treacherous is for violence.
3. Whoever guards his mouth protects his life; whoever opens his lips wide comes to ruin.
4. The lazy person craves and gets nothing, but the diligent are fully satisfied.
5. The righteous hate lies, but the wicked act in shameful and disgraceful ways.
6. Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless, but wickedness brings down the sinner.

10. Pride leads only to conflict, but wisdom is with those who take advice.
11. Wealth gained by empty means dwindles, but whoever gathers little by little makes it grow.
12. Hope delayed makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
13. Whoever despises the word will pay for it, but whoever fears the command will be rewarded.
14. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person away from the snares of death.
15. Good sense wins favor, but the way of the treacherous is harsh.
16. Every shrewd person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays his folly.
17. A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing.
18. Poverty and disgrace come to the one who ignores discipline, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
19. A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but turning away from evil is detestable to fools.
20. Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
21. Disaster pursues sinners, but the righteous are repaid with good.
22. A good person leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
23. The unplowed field of the poor may yield much food, but some is swept away for lack of justice.
24. Whoever holds back his rod hates his son, but whoever loves him is careful to discipline him.
25. The righteous eat until they are satisfied, but the stomach of the wicked goes empty.
