1. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept when we remembered Zion.
2. On the poplars there we hung up our lyres.
3. For there our captors asked us for songs, and our tormentors demanded joy: “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4. How can we sing the song of Yahweh in a foreign land?
5. If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.
6. May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.
7. Remember, Yahweh, against the people of Edom the day of Jerusalem, how they said, “Tear it down, tear it down to its foundations!”
8. Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, blessed is the one who pays you back for what you have done to us.
9. Blessed is the one who seizes your little ones and dashes them against the rock.
