*For the choir director. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam, when Saul sent men, and they watched the house in order to kill him.*

1. Rescue me from my enemies, my God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
2. Rescue me from those who do wrong, and save me from men of bloodshed.
3. For see, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men band together against me, not for any transgression or sin of mine, Yahweh.
4. Through no guilt of mine they run and take their positions. Wake up to meet me, and see!
5. You, Yahweh God of Armies, the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to any wicked traitors. Selah.
6. They come back at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl around the city.
7. See, they spew out words with their mouths; swords are on their lips, for they think, “Who hears?”
8. But you, Yahweh, laugh at them; you scoff at all the nations.
9. Because of his strength I will watch for you, for God is my fortress.
10. My God in his steadfast love will come to meet me; God will let me look in triumph on those who lie in wait for me.
11. Do not kill them, or my people will forget; make them wander by your power and bring them down, Lord, our shield.
12. For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies they speak.
13. Consume them in wrath; consume them until they are no more. Then they will know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.
14. They come back at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl around the city.
15. They wander about for food, and if they are not satisfied, they stay all night.
16. But I will sing of your strength; in the morning I will sing aloud of your steadfast love, for you have been my fortress and a refuge in the day of my trouble.
17. My Strength, I will sing praises to you, for God is my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
