*For the choir director. A psalm of David.*

1. Hear my voice, God, in my complaint; protect my life from the terror of the enemy.
2. Hide me from the secret plots of evildoers, from the noisy crowd of those who do wrong,
3. who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim bitter words like arrows,
4. shooting from hiding at the blameless; they shoot at him suddenly and without fear.
5. They encourage one another in an evil plan; they talk of hiding snares; they say, “Who will see them?”
6. They devise injustices: “We have perfected a well-laid plan!” For the inner self and the heart of a person are deep.
7. But God will shoot them with an arrow; suddenly they will be struck down.
8. Their own tongues will make them stumble; all who see them will shake their heads.
9. Then all people will fear; they will proclaim what God has done and ponder his deeds.
10. Let the righteous rejoice in Yahweh and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart give praise.
