Hebrews 4

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

So, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, we should be afraid that any of you might appear to have come short of it.

For we too, like them, have had the good news proclaimed to us. But the word they heard was of no benefit to them, because they were not joined together in faith with those who heard.

For it is we who have believed who are entering that rest, just as he has said, “So I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest,’” and yet his works had been completed ever since the foundation of the world.

For in one place he speaks of the seventh day like this: “And on the seventh day God rested from all his works.”

And again in this passage: “They will never enter my rest.”

So it is still left for some to enter it, and those who first had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in, because of disobedience.

God again fixes a certain day, “Today,” when he speaks through David after so long a time, as has been said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

For had Joshua given them rest, God would not have gone on to speak about another day after that.

So a Sabbath rest still remains for God’s people.

For the one who has entered his rest has himself rested from his works too, just as God did from his own.

So let us do our utmost to enter that rest, so that no one falls by following the same pattern of disobedience.

For God’s word is living and at work, cutting more sharply than any two-edged sword. It pierces all the way to where soul and spirit, joints and marrow, are divided, and it discerns the thoughts and purposes of the heart.

No created thing is out of his sight; all things lie stripped and exposed to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.

So then, we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. Let us keep a firm grip on what we confess.

For our high priest is not someone who cannot feel for us in our weaknesses; he has been tested in every way in the same manner we are, yet without sin.

So let us approach the throne of grace boldly, to obtain mercy and find grace that brings help at just the right time.
