2 Chronicles 12
Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made
1After Rehoboam’s kingdom was established and he had become strong, he abandoned the law of Yahweh, and all Israel with him.
2In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem
3with 1,200 chariots and sixty thousand horsemen. The people who came with him from Egypt were without number: Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites.
4He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
5Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what Yahweh says: You have abandoned me, so I have abandoned you into the hand of Shishak.”
6Then the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “Yahweh is righteous.”
7When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah: “They have humbled themselves, so I will not destroy them. I will grant them some measure of deliverance, and my wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.
8But they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands.”
9So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. He took the treasures of the house of Yahweh and the treasures of the royal palace; he took everything. He also took the gold shields that Solomon had made.
10King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and entrusted them to the commanders of the guard who kept the entrance of the royal palace.
11Whenever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the guards came and carried the shields, and then they brought them back to the guardroom.
12Because he humbled himself, the anger of Yahweh turned away from him, so as not to destroy him completely. Indeed, there were good things in Judah.
13King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and reigned. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.
14He did what was evil, for he did not set his heart to seek Yahweh.
15The acts of Rehoboam, from first to last, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, in the genealogical records? There were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16Rehoboam rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David. Abijah his son became king in his place.
