Lumin Translation
John 13
Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made
Before the Passover festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
During supper, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray him.
Jesus knew that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God.
So he got up from supper, laid aside his outer clothing, took a towel, and tied it around his waist.
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel that was tied around him.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus answered him, “You do not understand now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.”
Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, then not just my feet, but my hands and my head too!”
Jesus said to him, “Whoever has bathed needs only to wash his feet; he is completely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.”
For he knew who was going to betray him. That was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
When he had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he reclined at the table again and said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you?
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right to say so, for that is what I am.
So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
For I have given you an example, so that you also may do just as I have done for you.
Truly, truly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.
If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
I am not speaking about all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled: ‘The one who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’
I am telling you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am he.
Truly, truly I tell you, whoever receives anyone I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
After Jesus had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and he declared, “Truly, truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”
The disciples looked at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.
One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining at the table close beside Jesus.
So Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus whom he was talking about.
So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus’ chest, said to him, “Lord, who is it?”
Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread after I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
After Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”
But no one at the table knew why he said this to him.
Since Judas kept the money bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give something to the poor.
So after receiving the piece of bread, Judas went out immediately. And it was night.
When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will glorify him at once.
Little children, I am with you only a little while longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you also: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”
Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I tell you, the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times.”
