Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ.

I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions just as I handed them on to you.

But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head.

But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as having her head shaved.

For if a woman will not cover her head, she should also cut off her hair. But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should cover her head.

A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of man.

For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.

Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man.

That is why a woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.

Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

For just as woman came from man, so man is born through woman. And all things come from God.

Judge for yourselves: is it fitting for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,

but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair has been given to her as a covering.

If anyone is inclined to be contentious about this, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

But in giving you the following instructions I do not praise you, because when you come together it does more harm than good.

For, to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.

Indeed, there must be factions among you, so that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.

So when you come together in one place, it is not the Lord’s Supper that you eat.

For when the time comes to eat, each of you goes ahead with his own supper, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.

What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? In this I do not praise you!

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

So whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord.

A person should examine himself, and then eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

That is why many of you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined, so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

So then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. The other matters I will set in order when I come.
