Chronicles 5

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel—he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, so that he is not listed in the genealogy according to the birthright;

though Judah became strong among his brothers and a ruler came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph—

the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

The sons of Joel: his son Shemaiah, his son Gog, his son Shimei,

his son Micah, his son Reaiah, his son Baal,

and his son Beerah, whom Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria carried into exile; he was a leader of the Reubenites.

His relatives by their clans, when the genealogy of their generations was recorded: Jeiel the chief, Zechariah,

and Bela son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel. He lived in Aroer and as far as Nebo and Baal-meon.

To the east he lived as far as the edge of the desert that extends from the Euphrates River, because their livestock had increased in the land of Gilead.

In the days of Saul they made war on the Hagrites, who fell by their hand, and they lived in their tents throughout the whole region east of Gilead.

The Gadites lived next to them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah:

Joel the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.

Their relatives by their ancestral houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber, seven.

These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz.

Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was head of their ancestral house.

They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its towns, and in all the pasturelands of Sharon to their farthest limits.

All of them were enrolled in the genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for war: 44,760 men ready for military service.

They made war on the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

They were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were handed over to them, for they cried out to God in the battle, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in him.

They captured their livestock: fifty thousand of their camels, 250,000 sheep, and two thousand donkeys, as well as one hundred thousand people.

Many fell slain, because the war was from God. They lived in their place until the exile.

The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land; they were numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon.

These were the heads of their ancestral houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their ancestral houses.

But they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he carried them into exile, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. He brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, where they are to this day.
