Genesis 13

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

So Abram went up from Egypt into the Negev, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot went with him.

Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

He traveled by stages from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

to the place where he had first built the altar. There Abram called on the name of Yahweh.

Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,

so that the land could not support them both living together. Their possessions were so great that they could not stay together.

Quarreling broke out between the herders of Abram’s livestock and the herders of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.

So Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no quarreling between you and me, or between my herders and your herders, for we are family.

Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”

Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered everywhere—this was before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar.

So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and traveled east, and the two parted from each other.

Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents as far as Sodom.

Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against Yahweh.

After Lot had separated from him, Yahweh said to Abram, “Look up and gaze from the place where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west,

for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.

I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, your offspring could be counted too.

Get up and walk through the land, through its length and its breadth, for I will give it to you.”

So Abram moved his tents and went and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to Yahweh.
