Lumin Translation
Genesis 16
Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not borne him any children. She had an Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar.
So Sarai said to Abram, “Look, Yahweh has kept me from having children. Please sleep with my servant; perhaps I can have children through her.” Abram listened to Sarai.
So after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife.
He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she was pregnant, she began to look down on her mistress.
Then Sarai said to Abram, “This wrong done to me is your fault! I gave my servant into your arms, and when she saw that she was pregnant, she began to look down on me. May Yahweh judge between you and me.”
Abram said to Sarai, “Look, your servant is in your hands. Do to her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai treated her harshly, and she ran away from her.
The angel of Yahweh found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the road to Shur.
He said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She said, “I am running away from my mistress Sarai.”
The angel of Yahweh said to her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.”
The angel of Yahweh also said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring, so that they will be too many to count.”
Then the angel of Yahweh said to her, “You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael, for Yahweh has heard you in your misery.
He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in opposition to all his brothers.”
So she gave this name to Yahweh who spoke to her: “You are a God who sees me,” for she said, “Have I really seen here the One who sees me?”
That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. It is between Kadesh and Bered.
So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.
