Deuteronomy 8

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

Be careful to follow every commandment I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase, and go in and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors.

Remember the whole way that Yahweh your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

He humbled you, let you go hungry, and fed you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that a person does not live on bread alone, but a person lives on everything that comes from the mouth of Yahweh.

Your clothing did not wear out on you, and your feet did not swell these forty years.

Know in your heart that just as a man disciplines his son, Yahweh your God disciplines you.

So keep the commandments of Yahweh your God by walking in his ways and fearing him.

For Yahweh your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of flowing streams, with springs and deep waters welling up in the valleys and hills,

a land of wheat and barley, of vines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey,

a land where you will eat bread without scarcity and lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron and from whose hills you can dig copper.

When you have eaten and are satisfied, bless Yahweh your God for the good land he has given you.

Be careful that you do not forget Yahweh your God by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes that I am giving you today.

Otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, when you have built fine houses and live in them,

when your herds and flocks increase, your silver and gold multiply, and everything you have multiplies,

your heart may become proud, and you may forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,

who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery snakes and scorpions, a thirsty land where there was no water. He brought water out of flint rock for you.

He fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your ancestors had never known, to humble you and to test you, so that in the end he might do you good.

Then you may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’

But remember Yahweh your God, for he is the one who gives you power to gain wealth, in order to confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he is doing today.

If you ever forget Yahweh your God and follow other gods, serving them and bowing down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.

Like the nations that Yahweh is destroying before you, so you will perish, because you would not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God.
