Exodus 15
Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to Yahweh. They said, “I will sing to Yahweh, for he has risen high in triumph; horse and rider he has flung into the sea.
Yah is my strength and my song; he has become my deliverance. This is my God, and I will give him praise, the God of my father, and I will raise him high.
Yahweh is a warrior; Yahweh is his name.
He threw Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea; his finest officers sank in the Red Sea.
The deep waters closed over them; they dropped into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, Yahweh, shows its glory in strength; your right hand, Yahweh, crushes the enemy.
In your great majesty you tear down those who rise against you; you let loose your burning anger, and it devours them like straw.
By the breath of your nostrils the waters were heaped up; the streams stood upright like a mound; the depths grew firm in the heart of the sea.
The enemy said, ‘I will chase them, I will catch them, I will split up the plunder; my appetite will feast on them. I will unsheathe my sword; my hand will wipe them out.’
You blew with your breath, and the sea closed over them; like lead they sank in the mighty waters.
Yahweh, who among the gods is like you? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, awe-inspiring in praiseworthy deeds, a worker of wonders?
You reached out your right hand, and the earth swallowed them up.
By your steadfast love you led this people you redeemed; by your strength you guided them to your holy home.
Peoples have heard, and they shake; writhing has gripped those who live in Philistia.
Then Edom’s chieftains were struck with panic; Moab’s rulers are gripped by trembling; all who live in Canaan have melted away.
Dread and terror fall on them; because your arm is so great they are as silent as a stone, until your people cross over, Yahweh, until this people you have made your own cross over.
You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain that is your inheritance, the place you have made your dwelling, Yahweh, the sanctuary, Lord, that your hands have founded.
Yahweh will reign forever and ever.”
When Pharaoh’s horses entered the sea along with his chariots and his horsemen, Yahweh made the waters of the sea return over them, while the Israelites walked on dry land right through the sea.
Then Aaron’s sister Miriam the prophetess took a tambourine in hand, and all the women went out behind her with tambourines and dances.
Miriam sang back to them: “Sing to Yahweh, for he has risen high in triumph; horse and rider he has flung into the sea.”
Moses had Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. For three days they journeyed through the wilderness and did not find water.
When they reached Marah, they were unable to drink the water there because it was bitter; that is how Marah got its name.
The people complained against Moses and said, “What will we drink?”
Moses cried out to Yahweh, and Yahweh pointed him to a piece of wood. He tossed it into the water, and the water turned sweet. There Yahweh set a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he put them to the test.
He said, “If you listen closely to the voice of Yahweh your God and do what is right in his sight, if you give ear to his commands and keep all his statutes, then I will not lay on you any of the diseases that I laid on Egypt, for I, Yahweh, am the one who heals you.”
Next they reached Elim. Twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees were there, and they set up camp there beside the water.
