Ezekiel 26
Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made
In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me:
“Son of man, because Tyre has said about Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gateway of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I will be filled, now that she lies in ruins,’
therefore this is what Lord Yahweh says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves.
They will destroy the walls of Tyre and tear down her towers. I will scrape her soil off her and make her a bare rock.
She will become a place for spreading nets in the middle of the sea, for I have spoken, declares Lord Yahweh. She will become plunder for the nations,
and her daughter towns on the mainland will be killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
For this is what Lord Yahweh says: I am going to bring against Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses and chariots, with horsemen, and a great army of many people.
He will kill your daughter towns on the mainland with the sword. He will set up siege works against you, build a ramp against you, and raise a wall of shields against you.
He will direct the blows of his battering rams against your walls and break down your towers with his axes.
His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake at the noise of horsemen, wagons, and chariots, when he enters your gates as men enter a city that has been breached.
With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground.
They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise. They will tear down your walls and demolish your fine houses, and they will throw your stones, your timber, and your soil into the water.
I will put an end to the noise of your songs, and the sound of your harps will be heard no more.
I will make you a bare rock; you will be a place for spreading nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, Yahweh, have spoken, declares Lord Yahweh.
This is what Lord Yahweh says to Tyre: Will not the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan, when the slaughter is carried out within you?
Then all the princes of the sea will step down from their thrones, lay aside their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling; they will sit on the ground, trembling every moment, and be appalled at you.
They will take up a lament over you and say to you, ‘How you have perished, you who were inhabited from the seas, the renowned city, who was mighty on the sea, she and her inhabitants, who spread their terror to all who lived there!
Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall; the coastlands by the sea are terrified at your passing.’
For this is what Lord Yahweh says: When I make you a ruined city, like cities that are no longer inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you and its vast waters cover you,
then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of long ago. I will make you live in the world below, among ruins from long ago, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited. But I will give splendor to the land of the living.
I will make you a horror, and you will be no more. Though you are searched for, you will never be found again, declares Lord Yahweh.”
