Ezekiel 28

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

The word of Yahweh came to me:

“Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what Lord Yahweh says: Because your heart has grown proud and you have said, “I am a god; I sit in the seat of the gods in the heart of the seas,” yet you are a man and not a god, though you think your mind is like the mind of a god—

Look, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you.

By your wisdom and your understanding you have gained wealth for yourself, and you have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries.

By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and your heart has grown proud because of your wealth.

Therefore this is what Lord Yahweh says: Because you think your mind is like the mind of a god,

I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of the nations. They will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and profane your splendor.

They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die the violent death of the slain in the heart of the seas.

Will you still say, “I am a god,” in front of those who kill you? You are a man and not a god in the hands of those who strike you down.

You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners, for I have spoken, declares Lord Yahweh.’”

The word of Yahweh came to me:

“Son of man, take up a lament over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘This is what Lord Yahweh says: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering: carnelian, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald. Your settings and your mounts were crafted in gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.

You were an anointed cherub who guarded, and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the stones of fire.

You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until wrongdoing was found in you.

Through your abundant trade you were filled with violence within, and you sinned. So I cast you out in disgrace from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, guardian cherub, from among the stones of fire.

Your heart grew proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I threw you to the ground; I made you a spectacle before kings, for them to stare at you.

By your many iniquities, in the dishonesty of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries. So I brought fire out from within you, and it has consumed you. I turned you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who saw you.

All who knew you among the peoples are appalled at you. You have come to a horrible end, and you will be no more forever.’”

The word of Yahweh came to me:

“Son of man, set your face toward Sidon and prophesy against her.

Say, ‘This is what Lord Yahweh says: I am against you, Sidon, and I will display my glory within you. Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I carry out judgments on her and show myself holy in her.

I will send plague into her and bloodshed into her streets. The slain will fall within her, by the sword that is against her on every side. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.

No longer will the house of Israel have any stinging brier or painful thorn among all their neighbors who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am Lord Yahweh.’

This is what Lord Yahweh says: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they have been scattered, and show myself holy through them in the sight of the nations, then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.

They will live in it securely. They will build houses and plant vineyards and live securely, when I carry out judgments on all their neighbors who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am Yahweh their God.”
