Isaiah 64

Lumin Translation 2.0 checked against the Hebrew and Greek How it was made

Oh, that you would tear open the heavens and come down, that the mountains would quake at your presence,

as when fire kindles brushwood and fire makes water boil—to make your name known to your adversaries, so that the nations would tremble at your presence!

When you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains quaked at your presence.

From ages past no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

You meet those who gladly do what is right, those who remember you in your ways. Look, you were angry, and we sinned; we have been in our sins a long time; can we be saved?

We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment. We all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, carry us away.

No one calls on your name or rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have made us melt away in the grip of our iniquities.

Yet now, Yahweh, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Do not be angry beyond measure, Yahweh, and do not remember iniquity forever. Look, please consider: we are all your people.

Your holy cities have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Our holy and beautiful house, where our ancestors praised you, has been burned with fire, and all that we treasured has become a ruin.

After all this, will you hold yourself back, Yahweh? Will you keep silent and afflict us beyond measure?
