Hallelujah! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever.
Who can tell of the mighty acts of Yahweh or declare all his praise?
Blessed are those who keep justice, who do what is right at all times.
Remember me, Yahweh, when you show favor to your people; come to me with your salvation,
so that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of your nation, and glory with your inheritance.
We have sinned, as our ancestors did; we have done wrong; we have acted wickedly.
Our ancestors in Egypt did not understand your wonders; they did not remember your many acts of steadfast love, but they rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Yet he saved them for the sake of his name, to make his might known.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert.
He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
The waters covered their foes; not one of them was left.
Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.
But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.
They gave in to their craving in the wilderness and put God to the test in the desert.
So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them.
In the camp they grew jealous of Moses and of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh.
The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the company of Abiram.
Fire blazed among their company; flames burned up the wicked.
They made a calf at Horeb and bowed down to a metal image.
They exchanged their glory for the image of a bull that eats grass.
They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,
wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds at the Red Sea.
So he said he would destroy them—had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to turn his wrath away from destroying them.
Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise.
They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Yahweh.
So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
make their descendants fall among the nations, and scatter them throughout the lands.
They joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They provoked him to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped.
This was credited to him as righteousness through all generations forever.
They angered him at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses because of them,
for they rebelled against his Spirit, and Moses spoke rashly with his lips.
They did not destroy the peoples, as Yahweh had told them to,
but they mingled with the nations and learned their ways.
They served their idols, which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood.
They defiled themselves by what they did; they prostituted themselves by their deeds.
So the anger of Yahweh burned against his people, and he loathed his inheritance.
He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power.
Many times he rescued them, but they were rebellious in their plans and sank low in their iniquity.
Yet he took note of their distress when he heard their cry.
For their sake he remembered his covenant and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive.
Save us, Yahweh our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, “Amen.” Hallelujah!
