For the choir director. A psalm of David.
The heavens tell of God’s glory; the expanse announces the work of his hands.
Each day pours out speech to the next; each night passes knowledge on to the next.
There is no speech, there are no words; their voice is not heard.
Yet their line goes out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. There in the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun.
It emerges like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy; like a mighty man it rejoices to run its course.
It sets out from one edge of the heavens and circles around to their far edges, and nothing is sheltered from its heat.
The law of Yahweh is flawless, renewing the soul; the testimony of Yahweh is reliable, giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of Yahweh are upright, bringing joy to the heart; the command of Yahweh is clear, brightening the eyes.
The fear of Yahweh is pure, standing firm forever; the rulings of Yahweh are true, and all of them are righteous.
They are more to be prized than gold, than a great deal of fine gold, and sweeter than honey and the flow from the honeycomb.
Your servant, too, is warned by them; keeping them brings great reward.
Who can perceive their own mistakes? Clear me of the faults that are hidden.
Hold your servant back from arrogant sins as well; do not let them master me. Then I will be blameless, cleared of great transgression.
May what my mouth speaks and what my heart ponders be pleasing to you, Yahweh, my rock and my redeemer.
