Psalm 94

Yahweh, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth!

Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back the proud what they deserve.

How long will the wicked, Yahweh, how long will the wicked exult?

They pour out words, they speak arrogantly; all evildoers boast.

They crush your people, Yahweh, and afflict your inheritance.

They kill the widow and the foreigner, and murder the fatherless.

They say, “Yah does not see; the God of Jacob does not notice.”

Understand, you senseless ones among the people! You fools, when will you become wise?

He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see?

He who disciplines nations, does he not punish—he who teaches humankind knowledge?

Yahweh knows the thoughts of humankind, that they are only a breath.

Blessed is the one you discipline, Yah, the one you teach from your law,

to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked.

For Yahweh will not abandon his people; he will not forsake his inheritance.

For justice will return to righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it.

Who will rise up for me against evildoers? Who will take a stand for me against those who do wrong?

If Yahweh had not been my help, my soul would soon have dwelt in silence.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your steadfast love, Yahweh, held me up.

When my anxious thoughts are many within me, your comforts delight my soul.

Can a throne of destruction be allied with you, one that frames trouble by decree?

They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn innocent blood.

But Yahweh has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.

He has turned their own wickedness back on them, and he will destroy them for their evil; Yahweh our God will destroy them.
